Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKIA)
In the 1975 the draft of the Master Plan for Airports was developed and in 1977 the government officially agreed with it and its execution began. The imposed war stopped it for a few years, and again in March 1991 working on the project started practically. A revision of the master plan was approved by the Minister of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority chief of the time, and the design and administrative operations continued. In 2002, the airport that had been prepared for all international flights and passenger transportations started to work. According to the latest statistics, the airport has had more than 69 direct flight destinations to Asia and Europe in 2016.
The airport hosts more than 40 airlines that connect Tehran to the cities in more than 30 countries through more than 700 weekly flights. Flights of this airport are done by the following airlines: Qeshm Air, Fly Baghdad, UAE, Caspian, Azerbaijan, Iran Air, Qatar, Mahan, Sky (Aseman), Air Arabia, Iraq Airways, Oman Air, ATA and Unity. The destinations are Istanbul, Amsterdam, Yerevan, Hamburg, Baghdad, Abu Dhabi, Moscow, Najaf, Ankara, Doha, Sharjah and Guangzhou. About 16483 international passengers travel through this airport every day.
